If we compare the dream of human society with the description of hell that religions all around the world have promulgated, we find they are exactly the same. Religions say that hell is a place of punishment, a place of fear, pain, and suffering, a place where the fire burns you. Fire is generated by emotions that come from fear. Whenever we feel the emotions of anger, jealousy, envy, or hate, we experience a fire burning within us. We are living in a dream of hell....
If you consider hell as a state of mind, then hell is all around us...
We are already in hell, including the people who tell us that. No human can condemn another to hell because we are already there. Others can put us into a deeper hell, true. But only if we allow this to happen...
Every human has his or her own personal dream, and just like the society dream, it is often ruled by fear. We learn to dream hell in our own life , in our personal dreams.....those are anger, jealousy, hate, envy, and other negative emotions...

I spent many years in hell....the hell and insanity of alcoholism. Only I never knew it was hell and for a long time I thought it was normal and that everyone lived as I did. No longer do I want to be ruled by anger, fear, jealousy, hate, envy and the like.....Life is too short and there is way to much wonderful in it. I still fall short of that dream at times, but the difference today is that they are moments and they pass. I am making a new dream today, it's a work in progress, but it is already more than I ever dreamed possible and I know it's only gonna get better.

Thanks for the reminder on keeping the proper prespective on things.
Thank you for sharing.
Yes yes yes! It is insane to realize that we have created our own Hell. I have been there recently and am just coming out of the darkness recently. I am tired of denying myself living each day. It is time to live.
Again thank you for your share from the readings that you do and your personal experiences.
Hell as a state of mind? Interesting. If the mind is physical, and not somekind of Cartesian/dualist construct, then the mind is a place, ergo: hell is a place.

Yes, it is only going to get better!
I too was in Hell while I was drinking and using, I knew I was there though, and didn't really know how to get out!
I agree that there is too much beauty surrounding us, to choose to live in anger, fear, resentment-Nope, I think I'll choose love for today!
Love you Rexie!
I used to go to meeting with a much older woman named Ann. Ann used to say, "I have never been to prison but, I made a prison of my home." Same kind of thing.
Move over, cuz I'm sharing your dream!
By coming to AA and finding sobriety a day at a time, God din't open the gates of heaven and let me in, He opened the gates of Hell and let me out.
I bought a book recently titled "23 minutes in Hell" by Bill Wiese. I haven't read it yet but looking forward to it.
I too was in Hell for 20 years of blackouts and whatever. When I did step 3 and gave my life to God, and let His will be done and not mine, life sure got a whole lot easier, and I no longer have that fear of returning to Hell!
AMEN!
Just dropping in to say hello.
:-)
...and again. Hello!
Hope you're well...
